Sweden ScienceNet is a joint initiative between ten leading Swedish universities:
- Chalmers University of Technology
- Karolinska Institutet
- Linköping University
- Lund University
- Royal Institute of Technology
- Stockholm University
- Swedish University of Agricultural Science
- Umeå University
- University of Gothenburg
- Uppsala University
It is a national platform showing ongoing research in Sweden and it is based on the desire of the participating universities to make information about their research activities more easily available. It can also give answers to key questions on these activities such as:
- What projects are ongoing in different areas?
- Which researchers are supported by which financing agencies?
- Which collaborations exist between researchers and organizations?
The information in Sweden ScienceNet is structured and of guaranteed quality. There are possibilities for different searches related to scientific areas, to individual researchers and to universities and other organizations. Functionalities are built into the system that makes it possible to export and analyze the information. Sweden ScienceNet is owned and governed by the ten universities mentioned above. For this purpose they have set up a steering group with representatives from the universities and with Björn O. Nilsson, CEO, IVA, as chairman.
A more technical group has been set up with persons from the universities who locally are responsible for the operation of the system and who coordinate the activities internally and guarantee synergies with other activities at the university.
The universities have entrusted the technical operation and support of the system to Avedas AG, a software and consultancy company, which earlier developed the system with financial support from VINNOVA.
Sweden ScienceNet currently presents information on research projects funded by Vetenskapsrådet, FAS, Formas, VINNOVA, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. Information on research supported by other agencies and foundations will be added. Last import of data on funded research projects were done as follows:
- for Vetenskapsrådet: May 2011
- for FAS: November 2011
- for Formas: May 2011
- for VINNOVA: September 2011
- for the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research: January 2012
- for Riksbankens Jubileumsfond: January 2012
A goal for the future development of this platform is to transfer data from internal systems of the universities (i.e. contract or project databases) to Sweden ScienceNet in order to make the information on ongoing research more complete. The universities also have the intention to extend Sweden ScienceNet to make it include information on publications and other relevant aspects of their research activities.
